In some cases, the solvent being recovered will be susceptible to degradation at higher temperatures or for azeotropes in air or water. Examples of these solvents include tetrahydrofuran and carbon disulphide. In these cases, it may be preferable to strip the saturated carbon with heated inert gas, typically nitrogen, separating the concentrated gas flow by refrigeration or chilling. In this case, the reactivity of the solvent is controlled and optimises the recovery rate of premium grade adsorbate.
