Company NewsGold MiningGold Seminar Attendees

Earlier this year Jacobi held a seminar specifically for the Gold mining industry with attendees from multiple companies coming together to share knowledge and discuss the ways in which we can innovate our products to increase their efficiency in the gold recovery process. Head of Gold operations Pierre-Eric Blanc had the following to say:

I am thrilled that we organised a seminar in Kalgoorlie, Australia’s historical gold mining land, gathering technical talents from the mineral industry and high level speakers from prominent institutions like Curtin Uni and CSIRO, or corporations like Evonik, Gekko and Jacobi, to share the latest developments on their goods & services.

As world leading suppliers of activated carbons to the gold mining industry, we feel that it is our duty, our value proposition, to educate our customers in particular, and the industry in general, about best practices: the driver for the talks was “optimise your chemicals’ efficiency and produce more gold!!”

Why organise Gold Carbon seminars you might ask?

After the acquisition of PICA, JACOBI becomes the largest coconut shell activated carbon manufacturer in the world and the leading carbon supplier to the gold industry. Ever since then, Jacobi has been delivering not only the best quality product to gold industrial, but also the top level technical support and services, including this global annual seminar. Jacobi feels the responsibility to share its knowledge on carbon selection and management, helping our clients to maintain healthy carbon circuits. Therefore, Jacobi has been hosting this complimentary event since 2011.

In recent years, gold industry has experienced a down turn and one of the main target for every gold company is to reduce the cost of production. Jacobi believes a premium quality gold recovery carbon can minimise the its usage and recover more gold in the solution. Therefore, we have been sharing this idea along with some solid evidence from some customers who moved to Jacobi’s premium grade on this platform. External consultants and engineers were also invited to give presentation on such topic from both academic and practical aspects.

This year, Jacobi has moved this seminar back to Australia where this seminar was started. The venue has been set in Kalgoorlie, the well-known Australian gold mining town. The aim was to present technical case studies on how to improve the carbon circuit.  It is achieved by a co-operation between Jacobi’s Gold Application Manager, Sean Armstrong, and four guest speakers from other organisations. Site metallurgists and processing engineers from major gold mining companies joined and enjoyed this event.

Some feedback we had from the event:

“I recently attended the Jacobi Carbons seminar held in Kalgoorlie Jan 2018. The seminar was run to bring together a number of both end users (the mines) and suppliers to the gold processing industry. The day was well attended by a number of different mining companies and was designed to create an atmosphere for sharing information and an opportunity for industry suppliers to provide information on product improvements.”

Alan Hitchiner – Evonik

“I really appreciated the opportunity to attend and present at the Jacobi seminar. These types of events are a great vehicle for bringing together suppliers, researchers and site people, and facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experience. Carbon management is often one of those aspects of gold processing which tends to drop down the priority list, and seminars like these are an excellent means of highlighting its importance.”

Karen Barbetti

“The Jacobi Carbons seminar held in Kalgoorlie offered local mineral processing professionals both advice on improving carbon management within their gold plants and insight into the supply chain requirements of delivering activated carbon to the customer. The seminar was a great mix of technical presentations and networking opportunities for all attendees.”

David Roberts – Senior Production Metallurgist, Norton Gold Fields

” Events such as the Jacobi carbon seminar provide valuable opportunities to support plant operations in their endeavour to optimise their process. Good carbon management is vital for ensuring efficient operation of CIP circuits. Gekko Systems was happy to contribute to the event.”
