Announcement Price increase as of September 1 for all Coal-based GAC and PAC from China

Please note that prices will be increased for all direct activated Granular Activated Carbon (GAC), Re-agglomerated GAC and Powder Activated Carbon (PAC) up to 15% as of September 1, 2021. The price for coal-based pellets is scheduled to be increased as of Q4 2021.

Since last year, there has been an ongoing trade conflict between China and Australia. In October 2020, the Chinese government issued an unofficial ban on imports of coal from Australia. This ban has led to a shortage of coal suitable for AC production in China, driving prices up on bituminous coal, anthracite and coal tar. Two graphs are provided below showing the price index of these raw materials over the last 4 ½ years. This has created a crisis situation in the AC industry in China. Many producers have either reduced the output or shut down production completely. This will impact the availability, cost and specifications for most coal-based AC products going forward.
